The members of Dyke & the Blazers grew up in Buffalo before going on to record the original version of "Funky Broadway." Here is their story.

Donnie Elbert, Frank Brunson, Darrell Banks -- Buffalo's has produced some great soul singer. So this set of stories asks why hasn't anybody heard of them? (BTW, since this story appeared in 2003, Frank Brunson has been inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame).

Here is the trailer for the film that tells the story of the early years on Buffalo's punk rock scene. The film was released in 2010.

This was my first music writing piece for The Buffalo News. The sidebar (included here) was also where I first started meeting the people who would end up populating "Bflo Punk 1.0," my 2010 documentary on the Buffalo scene. So I guess this is sort of where it started.

James Blue was a documentary maker who experimented with the form, including some made on the fly -- using elements that would later be incorporated into network entertainment shows 20 years after Blues's death. Here is my master's thesis about Blue and his work.

In 1991, there was an ill-fated attempt to revive Creem Magazine. It also served as an opportunity to look at the state of music journalism -- and its history in Buffalo.

Recorded at the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame Induction Gala at the Cove in Depew, N.Y., on Oct. 8, 2015. Process & the Doo Rags were inducted into the Hall that night.
The singers are (l-r through most of the set) Henry "Gumps" Graham, Michael "Smooth" Gibson and James "Process" Hawkins. Missing from the original group are Dennis Andrews and the late Stacy Lattimore.
